Frequently asked questions
1. Can I reuse the materials I have?
-
- While other contractors may not have a problem reusing materials, we do not reuse blocks or any materials as the strength and durability of old materials are compromised having already experienced normal wear and tear and weather damage. We simply cannot guarantee the longevity or quality of a wall with materials that have already been used and abused.
- It would be too time consuming to have to clean the old mortar off each block one at time. Worker's would have to work slowly and with caution as to not damage any blocks in the process. Ultimately, you'd be saving money by not having to buy materials, but you'd be charged more for labor.
- Say we agree to reuse old blocks, but not all are salvageable. The new blocks would be more vibrate than the old ones and you'd end up with a wall of different shades. It just wouldn't look nice.
2. Can I have the materials ready for you to build?
-
- In effort to avoid any delays, we do not allow our clients to prepare materials for us. Clients may not order enough or the correct items and this may cause a delay in the production. We understand the importance of getting our projects completed on time, so to prevent any setbacks we handle the purchasing and delivery of materials to ensure that everything we need is there when we need it.
3. Does your company take on small projects?
-
- Yes, we take on projects of all sizes. Please note that because every job, regardless of size, still demands our time and equipment, we have a minimum requirement to come out and provide services.
4. What can I do to make my masonry project last?
-
- To ensure that your project lasts as long as it possibly could, we recommend regularly inspecting it and addressing damages or any concerns as soon as possible before they become bigger issues.
- Install drainage systems to direct water away from the masonry.
- Be cautious of what you are planting and plant as far as possible from any masonry to avoid roots or irrigation system getting to the masonry.
5. Do I need permits?
-
- In most cities, permits are typically not required for maintenance work, repairs or rebuilds. Generally, if we're using an already existing footer, your project falls under this category.
- As for new construction, projects that require us to build from footer and up, most cities require a permit and have their own set of plans to follow. Since every city is different we highly recommend confirming with your city.
6. How long does it take to build a block wall?
-
- The timeline for constructing a block wall can vary depending on several key factors, including the size and length of the wall, the complexity of the design, site access and conditions, weather, and permitting requirements. A standard residential block wall may take only a few days to complete, while larger or more intricate projects—such as walls with decorative finishes, or engineered reinforcements—can extend to weeks. Nonetheless, we provide clear timelines upfront and keep our clients informed throughout the process, ensuring transparency and realistic expectations.
