Block Wall Repairs
Block walls are known for their strength and longevity, but like any structure they can still experience normal wear and tear and damage over time. Some of the most common issues that we are called our for including obvious impact from a tree or vehicle, loosened mortar, cracking, bowing or leaning walls. These can all be due to withstanding the harsh weather conditions over the years, soil pressure, sloping ground, poor drainage, or foundation settling. Hairline cracks may appear due to minor shifting, while larger cracks, separation or stair-casing between blocks can signal more serious structural problems.
In some cases, moisture intrusion can lead to efflorescence (white, chalky stains) or even cause the mortar to weaken, compromising the wall’s integrity if left unaddressed. If water damage is a factor, depending the severity of the damage, adding proper drainage or waterproofing the wall may be an option to prevent future problems. However, we always let our clients know that there is not reversing the damage. Depending on the damage, we may be able to take action to prevent future damage. However, it is important to note that any damage that has already occurred has already made its impact on the wall.
Professional inspection is always recommended to assess the root cause and determine the most effective repair method.
